Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Temple of Artemis was a Greek temple, made for the Goddess Astemis. It was built in Ephesus and was rebuilt three times before it completely turned to ruins in 401 BC. Only the foundations and some sculpture pieces remain from the destruction of the temple.

The first temple was dated back to the Bronze Age, in the 7th Century BC, the first temple was destroyed by a massive flood. The reconstruction began in 550 BC, it took 10 years to complete the constructions and the was destroyed for the second time by the act of arson by Herostratus. Once again it was rebuilt. Antipater of Sidon, added this to his list and described the finished temple as:

I have set eyes on the wall of lofty Babylon on which is a road for chariots, and the statue of Zeus by the Alpheus, and the hanging gardens, and the colossus of the Sun, and the huge labour of the high pyramids, and the vast tomb of Mausolus; but when I saw the house of Artemis that mounted to the clouds, those other marvels lost their brilliancy, and I said, "Lo, apart from Olympus, the Sun never looked on aught so grand"
