Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

What are they?

The Seven Wonders of the World are; The Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

The Greeks loved to write up massive lists of splendid constructions of their time. Today we think that there was only Seven Wonders of the Ancient World but in fact there was many more. We do not know about them as such because there may of been only one writer to write about them and so we do not know if it were real or not, but then again every though there have been many individuals who have written about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World we cannot be sure to know if it was that truth as only one of them are left standing today, the Great Pyramid of Giza.

 

Philon of Byzantium and Antipater of Sidon, wrote two of the greatest known lists. The Greeks cut the list down to seven as they thought it had a mystical significance.
