Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest and the oldest out of the three pyramids in El Giza, Egypt. It is also the oldest out of the Seven Wonder of the Ancient World and currently the only one that remains standing and intact.

Egyptologists believe that the Pyramid was built as a tomb, which took 10-20 years to build and finished building around 2560 BC. It is 146.5 meters tall (481 feet) and it was the tallest man-made structure for around 3,800 years. It was originally covered with casing stones that made it smooth on the outer surface, some of the casing stones can still be seen at the base of the Pyramid.

There are many theories on how the Pyramid was built but the most acceptable was that it was built by moving huge stones from the quarry and dragging and lifting them right into their places.

There are three known Chambers inside. The lower Chamber, which is cut into the bedrock where the Pyramid was built and unfinished. The King and Queens Chambers are higher up the Pyramid. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only known Pyramid that has passages, ascending and descending.
