Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was a tomb built between 353 and 350 BC, in Bodrum, Turkey. It was built for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire and Artemisia II Caria, who was both his wife and his sister. The tomb was designed by the Greek architects Satyrosand Pythius of Priene.

The Maulsoleum was said to be 45 meters tall and the four sides of the tomb were each created by one of the four Greek sculptors, Leochares, Bryaxis, Scopas of Paros and Timotheus.

Once the structure was finished, it was such a triumph that Antipater of Sidon wrote about it and considered it to be one of his Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

It was sent to ruins through multiple earthquakes from the 12 century to the 15 century.

(The word mausoleum is known as above ground tomb).
