Statue of Zeus at Olympia
The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was a huge seated statue. Around 13 meters tall. In 435 BC, it was made by a Greek sculptor Phidias at the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece.
The sculpture was made from ivory plates and gold panels over wooden framework. It represented the God Zeus sitting on an elaborate cedar wood throne ornamented with ebony, gold, ivory and precious stones.
It was destroyed and lost through the 5th century AD. There was no remained of the statue found and the only detailed evidence of its existence was from the ancient Greek descriptions and the representations on coins.
